Cigar Review – Patoro Brasil

Now I know why the Patoro Brasil has become one of the most popular series in Patoro’s offerings.

After a 13-year career with the Oettinger Davidoff Group as Avo and Griffin’s Product Manager & Brand Ambassador for Switzerland, Patrik Jonas Martin decided to create his own cigar brand: PATORO. After a thorough search for the partner best able to satisfy his high level of quality requirements, he finally selected the Dominican Republic and more particularly the company of Augusto Reyes who proudly represents the 6th generation in growing tobacco. In 2014, Martin was joined by Dr. Pablo Richard (the grandson of a key figure in the world of tobacco, Dr. Ernst Schneider, former owner and Chairman of the Oettinger Davidoff Group).

The green used for the cigar band of this line is commonly known as “British Racing Green” and symbolizes power, willpower, efficiency and victory, which is why Patoro have used it for the Patoro Brazil series.

FLAVOUR NOTES AND IMPRESSIONS

The Patoro Brasil Gordito has a tawny brown wrapper. Firm to the touch, with no soft spots. Short and stout, it feels quite robust and comfortable to hold. Scents on the foot and wrapper are of cedar, pepper and hay.

I used a punch cutter to cut through the triple cap. The dry draw has flavours of sweet pepper. The ring gauge is also comfortable in the mouth and easy on the jaw.

On light up, I found the Patoro Brasil to be mild bodied. Good smoke output too. Flavours are of mild pepper on the retrohale and a zesty citrus on the tongue. Flavours continue to develop and the last third has distinct cinnamon and aniseed/liquorice notes. This cigar was so smooth, that I could retrohale with reckless abandon – no sinus burn or irritation at all. Which was quite remarkable considering how pronounced and forward the flavour profile was.

The ask was a nice grey and held on till a little after I removed the band, which was around about the last third.

Another nub-worthy stick, made possible with my snazzy Cigar Dagger.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Given the history and pedigree of the owners and blenders at Patoro, I was expecting to be in for a smoking experience that would be both refined and luxurious. The Patoro Brasil delivered! A perfectly balance offering that allows you to engage all the sense with no inhibition.

This was my first Patoro experience, and based on this cigars performance, I am eager to try other offerings from Patoro.

If, like me, you like the Davidoff Escurio (a homage and celebration of all things quintessentially Brazilian), you’ll REALLY like the Patoro Brasil
