How it all started…<\/span><\/p>

1968<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>

We Ignited Nicaragua<\/span><\/strong><\/h4>

If Nicaragua had poster boys for pioneers in its tobacco industry, Sim\u00f3n Camacho and Juan Francisco Bermejo would be first among them. The pair fled their native Cuba like so many others of their time. They sought opportunities in other lands. They had access to fields rich with deep, volcanic soil in Estel\u00ed, Condega and Jalapa. On arrival, they agreed to pay workers to help them grow and harvest. And they found facilities in Central Estel\u00ed where they could process the tobacco. These were the first days of the Nicaragua Cigar Company.<\/span><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Nicaraguan cigars became recognized as a superior alternative to Cuban cigars after the embargo. Somoza, a fellow classmate of Richard Nixon visited the White House. As a polite statesman, Nixon offered Somoza a box of cigars to choose from. As the dictator reached to select one, he paused, his hand hovered over the box. He enjoyed seeing that the cigars fit perfect into the full box from the Nicaraguan Cigar Company.<\/p>

Somoza Debayle was keen to cash in on the opportunities tobacco provided in Nicaragua. He owned farms in Estel\u00ed and Jalapa which were already producing viable crops. Now came his chance to own a factory.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

The start, 1968. Joya de Nicaragua started as the very first premium handmade cigar manufacturer in Nicaragua. A factory located in the city of Estel\u00ed. Today, the tobacco capital of the world. F\u00e1brica de Tabacos Joya de Nicaragua, S.A is a 100% Nicaraguan-owned and operated company. They develop, manufacture and market worldwide renowned cigar brands.<\/span><\/p>

From seed to smoke<\/span><\/h4>

To make great cigars, you need great tobacco.<\/span><\/p>

By the time<\/span> a Joya de Nicaragua Cigar reaches you, it will have passed through more than 300 pairs of hands. All the tobacco used to make it will be at least four years old. The Escaparates, or Aging Room, is another milestone in the cigar\u2019s life. Here, the tobacco will rest after the rigours of farm and factory activity. It allows the blends to mellow and mingle and the tobacco leaves to marry. This can take from 90 days to several years, depending on the strength and blending of the cigars. Joya de Nicaragua considers the Escaparates to be one of the most crucial stages of cigar making.<\/p>

Once sorted by colour, the packers pack the cigars in a box from dark to light, left to right. Each cigar gets a ring, fed into protective cellophane wrappers and placed in the box. Sealed with a Joya de Nicaragua origin sticker. It is a guarantee of their Nicaraguan authenticity. Bold but smooth<\/span><\/h4>

This is a\u00a0powerhouse\u00a0cigar. The first few puffs have deep rich<\/span> chocolate<\/span><\/strong>\u00a0flavours. As the Joya begins to get into its groove the\u00a0<\/span>burn is even with a white ash. <\/span><\/strong> The flavours shift to a more\u00a0<\/span>spicy <\/span><\/strong>one with\u00a0<\/span>sweet caramel and hints of figs<\/span><\/strong> There is also a nice\u00a0spicy character to the cigar.<\/span><\/p>

The first puff of this beautiful cigar lighter than you would think. The wrapper is very dark brown, like aged leather. So the first thought was that the first puff would be very bold. Yet it is smooth with an easy draw releasing an abundance of rich tobacco flavours.<\/p>

There are vanilla and Marie biscuit undertones.
Hints of pepper and spice swirl around with each puff.<\/p>

It is a great cigar with black coffee. A light smoke with an easy puff.<\/p>
